Summer 2008 Study Abroad Photography Contest

That's right the study abroad photography contest is coming back for the Summer 2008 study abroad sessions. Don't miss out on this opportunity to win $250 to use during your study abroad!

Step 1 Take Great Pictures

You have a once in a lifetime opportunity to take pictures in some of the most beautiful places in world during your study abroad experience. Maybe it’s a chance to take pictures in the wildlife preserve on the campus in our South Africa study abroad program, or taking photos of the Champs-Élysées during your study abroad in Paris.

If you thought you got the picture of a lifetime but it just did not turn out right, you’re probably wishing you had installed Photoshop on your laptop before you left. Don’t worry about it! For color corrections, cropping and a lot more there is a great online photo editor at Picnik.com - it’s free to use, and you don’t even have to register. The only rules for the photos you submit are: they have to be taken on campus, in the city in which you are currently studying abroad, or on a CEA excursion; you cannot merge, copy, or Photoshop multiple photos together; photos must be G rated; and the photos must be taken by you. All submissions must be made by midnight PST on 8/10/2008 Click here to view the full contest rules

Step 2 Upload your Pictures to BubbleShare.com

You’re probably wondering why we’re asking you to post your photos to Bubble Share when you probably already have a Flickr or Facebook account that you use for sharing your photos with everyone back home. Well let us drop a little knowledge - Bubble Share has some of the best photo sharing features on the web, and it’s incredibly easy to use. So in the interest of making this contest as cool as possible we decided to use the lesser known photo sharing website.

To upload your photos on Bubble Share just follow the steps below:

  • Go to BubbleShare.com

  • Click “Sign Up”, fill in the information and click “Create Account”

  • Click “New Album”

  • Title the album -- My Study Abroad Contest Entry From ##Your Location##

    • Only titles using the above layout will be qualified to enter

  • Click the “Choose Photos” button and navigate to and select the photos you would like to add(you can select more than one at a time) click the “Open” button and the pictures will upload.

  • Please keep the Privacy Settings set at “Public”

  • Select your album theme

  • Click the giant “Next”

To complete your submission to our contest:

Congratulations you are entered to win!

Step 3 The Voting Starts 8/11/2008

Using the link you provided us to your album above we will use the “Blog Album” feature on Bubble Share to post your album our blog, and post the voting tool on the left side of our blog. The voting will begin on 8/11 and end on 8/22

Step 4 Five Easy Ways to Self Promote Your Entry

In the world of Web 2.0 we have made it substantially easier to promote your photo album. We did all the hard work, now it’s time for you to put in a little leg work in to ensure your victory.

  1. Use the “[+] Bookmark This Page” menu on the side of the blog when you click that link it expands a menu of links that will post a link to different social networking sites making easy to share your entry with friends, make sure to encourage them to do the same.

    1. Share on Facebook link will allow you to post this blog to your Facebook profile with just a couple of clicks. Just remember to write something like “Vote for Entry #4 to win the CEA Study Abroad Photo Contest so I can win $250 bucks”

    2. Do you use del.icio.us to bookmark everything like some of us at CEA do? When you click the del.icio.us link it will automatically bring the box to save to your bookmarks, just remember to put in the notes a description comparable to what was suggested above, so when you share the bookmark with your friends they know which entry to vote for. If you tag the bookmark with: study, abroad, photography, contest you might even get a few people you don’t know to vote for you!

  2. Use the “Blog This” button to embed your Bubble Share album on your Blog, Facebook Profile, MySpace Page, or any other website you can.

  3. Use our Facebook page to promote your entry. We will have a section of our page dedicated to the photo contest, become a fan of our page and post to “The Wall” encouraging others to vote for you.

Winner Announced in the Study Abroad Photography Contest

Ok – so these photos might not yield a thousand bucks but they’re definitely worth 1,000 words and they earned the CEA 2008 Spring Semester winner, Jedd Ticar, $250 and a feature in the 2009-2010 CEA Viewbook! Congatulations Jedd – your friends, family and fans sent in 870 collective votes for your amazing photo album entry #19 detailing your experiences so far in and around Granada, Spain!

This contest was a huge success, resulting in 21 album entries of some truly remarkable photos capturing more than half of CEA’s international cities and their surrounding areas. And what’s more, the votes tallied almost 2,500, an outstanding result for only one week of voting! It’s been remarkable to see some of the memorable “shots” that represent study abroad through images captured by our talented students. What’s obvious is that each experience is different and each student has a different perspective captured through a different lens. Afterall, isn’t that what studying abroad is all about? Seeing the world through different viewpoints?

We also want to congratulate our 1st runner up, Christina Reynier who submitted entry #13 from her study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, garnering 759 votes.

Thanks to everyone who submitted and voted. The summer photo contest will begin in July, so look on the CEA website for details!
